Introduction

The aim of the Sociological and Social Theory Section is to promote the professional cooperation of MSZT members who are interested in sociological theory or social theory and involved in doing research and teaching in this field, as well as contribute to the improvement of professional public life. Its main activities include debating publications regarding sociological theory or social theory and manuscripts written by the members of the section, and organizing conferences in the field of sociological theory or social theory.
 
Zoltán Farkas, PhD in Sociology. He is a university lecturer at the Institute of Sociology at Miskolc University. He was awarded his master’s degree in sociology at the Faculty of Arts of ELTE University, in 1986. He completed his PhD at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, in 1989. His main area of research is general sociological theory, and he is involved in elaborating the theory of institutional sociology.
 
Zoltán Hidas (assistant professor at Péter Pázmány Catholic University) obtained his degree in Economics in 1995 at Budapest University of Economic Sciences. He continued his studies at the Department of Philosophy at Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest (1993-96) and at the Department of Sociology at Heidelberg University (1996-98). He worked as a researcher of the Max Weber Cultural- and Social Science Institute at Erfurt University (1998-2001) and received his Ph.D. in 2001. He has been working at Pázmány Péter Catholic University since 2002. Between 2008 and 2010 he was an assistant professor at the Institute of Sociology, Miskolc University. His main field of research is the history of sociology, cultural sociology, sociology of religion
